Exciting Updates from Lore Studio: Version 1.0.5

A Little About Me

I wanted to share some updates about my life and the current development of Lore Studio. I’ve just finished the latest update, which is 1.0.5. I thought I’d give blogging a go to get some thoughts down!

For those new to my website, I’m the creator of Lore Studio. You probably guessed that from the title! Here’s a brief overview of my background: I studied Computer Science at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand.

After a brief introduction to a Psychology class, I switched majors to study Psychology. At the time, I thought, “All I do is spend time in a computer lab coding and don’t get to socialize.” Looking back, that was a reactive decision. However, I genuinely enjoyed learning about Psychology. I sometimes think I could have done a double major, but oh well! Lessons of youth, right?

The Daydreamer in Me

Throughout my life, I’ve always been a daydreamer. My mind often drifts into the fantasy worlds I want to create. Characters live in my mind, some with rich backstories and others born from boredom. Creative writing was a favorite hobby of mine growing up. I was deeply invested in the creative worlds of great minds like George Lucas and Tolkien. I loved planning the backgrounds of these worlds, from different environments to the people—human or otherworldly—who inhabited them. I’m sure there’s an abandoned notebook somewhere filled with those old ideas!

The Birth of Lore Studio

This brings us to my application, Lore Studio. Like many creatives, the emergence of AI technology has been a mixed bag. On one hand, as a massive fan of the Marvel universe, especially Iron Man, the thought of AI excites me. On the other hand, I understand the concerns about AI replacing jobs in an already competitive market. The idea of big tech companies using AI to replace individuals is daunting.

Nonetheless, let’s dive into why I created this application. My reason was simple: brainstorming and structure. I needed a space to brainstorm my ideas without losing track of them. I must admit, AI has helped in my brainstorming process. More importantly, I wanted lore-aware brainstorming so I wouldn’t have to constantly remind ChatGPT of my ideas! This concept expanded into drafting story scenes with lore-aware consistency to help plan how different scenarios might play out.

Expanding AI Support

I expanded the AI support to allow users to choose from other AI providers, such as Anthropic and Google. This was made possible through API access to these providers. The next concept I wanted was local AI, which I initially struggled to implement. After many long sessions of learning (thanks to ChatGPT and Codex), I introduced it in the latest 1.0.5 update through Ollama.

The latest update is now live! You can find it on the Microsoft Store. For current users, please check it out and provide any feedback. It’s been a long, exhausting journey to reach this stage, but I’ve genuinely enjoyed creating something I find useful. As a side note, I’ve also submitted Lore Studio to Steam, hoping to get published there as well!
